AITA for yelling at my boss and quitting my job?
  • 03
I, 16F, worked a fast food job for 9 months. I was hired at 15, and worked throughout the school year and summer. I loved my job, my boss always expressed his appreciation and told me the amazing pay raise I would get when I turned 16. He made me come in and close on my birthday, but tried to make me feel better by getting me a

cookie. Once I turned 16, he made me work doubles, close, and miss important events because he "needed me". When I would come in after he begged me, I would always get sent home early. When school started, I decided to quit. I have soccer 5-6 days a week and cannot balance both. When I put in my two weeks, he begged me to stay and

claimed we were short staffed. He asked to have a meeting, and I agreed. He called me selfish, claiming that he's done so much for me. I was p ed because he made me work long hours, and NEVER gave me a raise. (I was making $9.50/hr) I told him, a bit louder than I should have, that the only thing he's done for me is

ruin my social life and make me smell like burgers. After that, I walked out and blocked him on everything. One of my old coworkers said I upset him a lot, but I feel like he should've let me go when I asked instead of trying to guilt trip me into staying. So, AITA?

Mundane-Cabin... NTA and good for you!

Friendly-Corgi3... NTA. You properly quit when you have him 2 weeks which is supposed to be the time. generally allowed for him to find replacing staff so being short staffed is his fault and problem no need to guilt trip you for doing it properly!

Nolmagination7... It seems like you did everything right and even gave your 2 weeks notice. It would have been better if you didn't stoop to his level and yell at him when you were already quitting. However, he was not being professional either, and he's the adult.

Hopefully, there's someone else there that you can use for a reference because it sounds like you were a dependable worker who was being taken advantage of. NTA

RndmIntrntStra... nope. NTA. your boss was counting on your youth and inexperience to be able to work you to exhaustion for (figuratively speaking) pennies. good on you for knowing that's messed up. you're young, and more importantly, a job is not supposed to become your life.

Zestyclose-Rea... Back when I was in my teenage years I worked for a corporate retailer (that shall not be named) but they always promised me raises and never gave them to me. I calculated how much they owed me and presented it to my boss and let him know I'd be going above his head

to corporate as well. He agreed to pay me my lost. wages. Some companies. have policies in place for timelines of wage increases, if you worked for a bigger company, look into it! It's good that you are learning from a young age to stand up for yourself. NTA

Ritocas3 NTA - you gave him notice. He just has to accept it whether he likes it or not. Well done for not falling for his bullying.

Full-Arugula-25... He was trying to take advantage of you and you stood your ground. Of course he's hurt. You're just a stupid teenager girl who knows nothing. You should bow down and be grateful he gave you so much responsibility. I about
